Nexia, a Canadian company, has genetically modified goats to be part spider. Why? So that the goats will make spider silk protein in their milk, which is then purified and spun into fibers reportedly stronger than steel. The fibers are said to have important industrial and military uses, but are difficult to produce in large quantities. Apparently, farming spiders is too difficult because of their territorial and cannibalistic nature. So of course, the natural solution is to create spider goats.
And don't forget glowing cats. In 2007, South Korean scientists cloned cats that glow in the dark.
Mr. Green Genes, the first fluorescent cat in the U.S.
Up next? Pigs with human genes in them. They will be grown to produce transplant organs for humans. Oh, and there's always a chance these pig-human hybrids may end up in our food supply as well. We'll never know. No big deal, right?
